Old Stuff

Updated: 5 days ago

This afternoon we raced from our apartment to the meet-up point for a probably-interesting catacombs tour. Which starting point we were clueless of. Like these pottery shards, it promised extreme antiquity.

After way too much striding along, passing endless streams of tourists whose required land speed was sluggish by comparison, we met our guide for the afternoon. It would be just us two.

We were driven to the San Sebastiano catacombs place, where official guide responsibility was ceded to one of those terrific guides who specialize in underground arcana. This, after some blocs of time spent in the Mamertine Prison. It's where Peter and Paul were held while waiting to have their heads swapped off. Brrrr. For me, the New Testament letters of Paul can never now be boring.

Here's a building we passed, one of hundreds whose history deserves reciting.
