I'm a late-70s retiree who, about twenty years ago, somehow became infected with a need for travel: to go fresh places that likely are freighted with fascinating history, culture, languages I don't fully understand. So every 18-24 months I do manage to find the funds to sally forth again, usually for a little over a month; this time it's 43 days. Forty-three.

My diesel Jetta is pretty old by now.
